Throwing in with Hugo

When I heard about the “coup” in Honduras, my first reaction was “that’s not good – the military replacing the elected leader”. But to my amazement, the loudest objections to the coup came from, of all places, Venezuela and Cuba. My immediate reaction to that was “I’m missing something here”.

Just knowing that those dictators were against the “coup” meant the change in government was probably in the best interest of democracy and the US. Here’s the rest of the story, from today’s Wall Street Journal: Honduras Defends Its Democracy

So the President of Honduras moves to conduct an election that the supreme court of Honduras has ruled illegal. The court orders the President removed, all according to the Honduran constitution. And the President of the US backs the puppet of Hugo Chavez. Will the US send troops to help Cuba and Venezuela crush Honduras? The only saving grace of this appalling foreign policy is that it might delay the imposition of more bad domestic policy.
