It’s high summer in the Northeast, and the political temps are running hot. Barney Frank made headlines recently for comments he made at a
healthcare town meeting . And while I continue to believe most of what has gone wrong in this country over the last several years can be squarely traced back to Barney (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac at the core), I did want to give the man props for actually holding a town meeting to explain his health care ideas to the voters.
Here in Natick, our Congressman is Ed Markey, who has not held such an event, and apparently has gone to ground, hoping the voters won’t notice. Here’s a quote from the press release the Congressman issued just before heading out for vacation:
“In the fall, Congress will pass comprehensive health care reform legislation that will preserve patient choice and lower costs to make health coverage more affordable for individuals and small businesses. During this markup, I fought to preserve a strong public option and ensure that our world-class hospitals in Massachusetts continue to receive the federal funding that is commensurate with their vital mission. “
Fighting for the “public option”. Fighting hard to give us the same quality of health care as
Canada and England. Fighting hard for rationing of healthcare, fighting hard for socialized medicine. And we haven’t even talked about one of the biggest taxes ever to be dropped on consumers: the
“Waxman-Markey” bill.
Come on people – this entire healthcare and energy tax fiascos are going to result in an epic backlash across the country in 2010, with Ed Markey being absolutely out of touch with his constituents. Where is the Republican candidate to offer voters an alternative to Ed? Come on people, let’s get organized!
